Breast Augmentation Surgery
In order to minimize possible surgical risks during or after your breast augmentation, you will you will be evaluated prior to your surgery to ensure you are healthy enough for the procedure. The evaluation requires a complete history of all medications, health disorders, and allergies. While we cover the entire process during your consultations, the following is a brief explanation of what to expect during and after your breast augmentation.
General Anesthetic
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, performed under deep sedation by a certified nurse anesthetist or certified nurse practitioner and takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. An incision, approximately 4 to 5cm long, may be made in the crease of the underside of the breast, the armpit or lower edge of the areola.
Placement of Implants
During your breast augmentation when the incision is made, the surgeon will create a pocket for the implant to lie in. This may be either beneath the muscle or beneath the breast tissue. The size and shape of your implants will ultimately determine the placement.
Closing Your Incisions
Following the breast augmentation you will have stitches (dissolvable) in place, covered with a dressing and a post-surgical bra. After one week of your breast augmentation the bra may be replaced by a standard sports bra. Normal bras and bathing suits may be worn after approximately two weeks.
Recovery
After your breast augmentation sleep or rest with your head slightly elevated. Avoid sleeping on your side. Keep your arms close to your body, and avoid lifting weights and exercise until cleared by your surgeon(4-6 weeks). Do not drive for at least 2 days after your breast augmentation.

Are you considering a breast augmentation?
A woman's bosom has long been a symbol of beauty and femininity. The shape, symmetry, and size of the breasts play a unique role in every woman’s self-perception.
Breast augmentation is an effective procedure and is about more than simply enlarging the breasts. Breast augmentation is suitable for women with insufficiently developed breasts or woman with shedding mammary gland systems causing the the skin loosen. This may be the case after breastfeeding or significant weight loss.
The age minimum for breast augmentation is generally 18 years, after the mammary glands are fully developed. It is recommended that breast augmentation only be performed when a woman no longer plans to get pregnant. Pregnancy and breastfeeding result in volume variations, producing a negative effect on the outcome of the surgery. Implants do not influence pregnancy in any form and does not expose the fetus to danger. It should be noted that many patients were able to breastfeed normally after a breast augmentation. However, complications may occur due to insufficient lactation.
